Scrapology scrapbook page of the month is a double layout this time.

I utilised the sketch they provided, and then the challenge was to add texture to the page. I hope I have achieved this with layering of the circles, velvet thickers for the title, buttons, pearls and also some florist mesh which I acquired.

Well as promised here is my layout from the Scrapology challenge for December 2011.........

My first thoughts when they said use filters papers and also looking at the video link was 'Oh Dear'. You see I do not have white filters papers.....just brown ones.....then it hit me! Using my new die I cut flowers out of the filter papers and then using my glimmer mists splatted ink on them (seeing as the spray was out of order). A brad in the centre and I was happy with them. The paper in Mia Casa and has also got a little glitter on it, the scalloped die cut is Bazill Bling if memory serves correct. The cream base I have inked with distress inks to tone down the brightness of it. Title is of thickers. The journal spot is a die cut (nesties) which has been inked again. To add a little more I have stamped some scrolls before adding the blossoms.

Hello and a Happy New Year to you. Once again time has flown since I last blogged, and I think part of that is due to the hustle and bustle that Christmas brings. My mojo has been missing for a while, perhaps in part to the creativness I have put into Purple Butterfly Crafts, Christmas and also not being able to crop for a couple of months. Well that changed today. I happened to see on Facebook that the new Scrapology challenge had been posted, and thinking to myself I have a crop coming up next week I would have a look see. Well I have that printed out, and last months hit me.....found the perfect photographs in the 'photos from before digital and need to be scrapped' box....and the layout flowed (give or take the annoyance of jammed spray inks). I will upload the photograph of it when I have a chance to snap it in good light. My youngest son even joined me in crafting too - getting out my stamps and doing his 'making thing'. Anyhow, I hope to have chance to blog more soon, I have plenty still to upload from 2011 (!) so I doubt I will be short of material for a while.

Well what a surprise when I opened my emails a little while ago!! I was asked to be a guest designer at Scrapology!! I was a little apprehensive but I thought 'Hey, I take part every month so why not!!'. So I received the sketch and original layout as you can see here on the Scrapology blog. This is the layout that I made from the inspiration they gave. I hope that is is of a high enough caliber for the team, well they published it so it must be lol!!

I hope this has inspired you to have a play, please do share it on the Scrapology blog, as there is a fabulous prize to be won.

I used various cardstock colours and also embossed cardstock for this page. The patterned paper is by Prima Marketing - My Mommy and Me. To add to the flow of the page and lead the eye I have also used buttons, card candi and also a punched/embossed butterfly with a splash of stickles.

A Cardinal Retreat - Final Day

The last day came rather too quick for us all......but there were still classes to do and final touches to challenge entries. I learnt today that I won the guess the photo competition too today :)!

A bright layout using basic grey papers. Many elements were hand cut from one sheet of the paper, then there are the stickers and buttons as well.

Christmas Bauble by Lynne

Not an easy thing to photograph....the snowflake was cut on the cricut which was sprayed with glitter spray and hung in the bauble. More bling with crystals on the flake tips and glitter in the bauble itself. all hung with a length of ribbon.

Make and Takes ~

Pretty Pins by Anita

Simple to make, but very pretty

Owl Keyring by Zoe - Few punched flowers topped with PP to make the base. Owl is a Stamping Up Punch cut from card and PP. Googly eyes and an eyelet to hang from a keyring. Smothered in Glossy Accents.

A Felt Brooch by Perdita - She had all the ingredients ready cut and packaged for us to sew together. I opted for a little bird. For size the eye is a small papermania button.

Classes ~~

White Space by SJ - we used various strips of punched/ripped/inked/folded etc paper to layer up this page which is glazed cs which has been sprayed with chalk mist and then rubbed off.......like a resist technique.

Another page class from SJ - using silver paint and items from a range by Echo Park (I think)

Challenges ~~
Make something from the scraps from a class....

Here is my card made from class leftovers......and also entering it into the Scrapology Monthly challenge

Make something from one sheet of 12 x 12 Cardstock....I made a flappy minibook. The inside there are two flap out panels for more photo and journalling space (will blog more later).

Cards using a sketch for your base - there were 2 sketches.....

Both cards are on 4 x 4 bases. The greatings are personal expression stamps (if I remember right) which have been raised on foam pads. The butterfly is mounted on mirri card with the wings raised.......that card won me a prize - it was voted the people's choice in it's category.....I was so surprised and chuffed.

Very excited ladies arrived at The York House hotel on the 16th September, as we all embarked on a weekend of scrapping/crafting, great company and probably eating a bit too much....but we enjoyed it all the same!!!

I was thrilled to see the teacher's and her assistant's samples of the first class........by Anita......a huge canvas. It fitted perfectly with the wedding photos I had planned for the class....

A 40cm canvas which has been pained with gold paint, and the papers are Bo Bunny Timepiece. The flowers are scalloped circles which have been cut with nesties scrunched and misted. There is also beads on wires for the watch chains, inking, ripping, and old book pages.

This is my layout from their inspiration.

The journalling reads, "December 1999 - family photo shoot at Sarah's Mum's thanks to a family friend. A is such a wriggler and the photograph had to be taken quick!".

PP and diecuts My Mind's Eye - Bloom and Grow, thickers for the title, core-dinations and a creative expressions mask which has been use to emboss a dragonfly which has been sanded to let the colour through. Papermania bling.

A simple layout as I did not want to detract from the photo itself, which is a photo of my brother in law and his daughter.

I have gutted the pink cs base and matted brown cs on top. From the pink I cut two swirls and made a large page corner with them. The photo has been matted onto the pp with a torn edge for texture, with the title in glitter chipboard under it. I have embellished the photo itself with a rub on. I then embellished the swirls and broke up the brown cs with blossoms and glitter butterflies.

Elephants Never Forget

Today's cards are starring Humphrey. Thanks to Liz for the stamp loan.

These cards are square 5x5 if memory serves me right. The image is stamped and watercoloured....the roses watercoloured with distress inks. This has then been double matted on card and patterned card. The blossoms and leaves have been punched out from my scraps, and the flowers given a little character with my floral punch craft tool. A little card candy and a ribbon and I was done.

One of the cards I gave to my youngest son's teacher as a thank you card at the end of last term. The elephant was rather appropriate as he played an elephant in the summer school play. I was really pleased with the reception I got on giving the card to her, she was amazed that I had made it and then that I had sat and painted the image in the first place :D :D. Apparantly this is one card she will definately be keeping in her memory box. I also made her a Survival Tin......which I have saved for another blog post.

Something today, made by Marion (my Mum). I knew she had been playing with her brayer, and thought I could share a card by her for the Scrapology Card challenge.

The spec for the challenge - your card must be a landscape and be created with a brayer, it must also include a sun.

A brayered background with sun.....utilising Hobby Art Stamps. The church is decoupaged onto the card for extra dimension.

Four Cards today!!!

3 are 4x4 in size and one 6x4....but all use the same principles.

Firstly I masked off an area in the middle of the card using sticky notes. I then took 3 contrasting (light/medium/dark shades) of distress inks and starting with the lightest stippled the colours on until I was happy. After removing the notes I then stamped the image over this as well as a greeting. The stamp I bought from Dimension Fourth.
I really like these cards.....simple, quick but effective.

The journalling reads 'Enjoying Mother Nature's Wonder'. This is something I enjoy when out in the woods etc, and often take photographs, but rarely get them onto a layout.....something these challenges have made me do.

I have used Love Elsie - Forrest ~ embossed card and patterened paper. Thickers for the title.

I have combined two challenges for this layout. Firstly Shimelle's 'Go Retro' challenge from here weekend cybercrop, and also the challenge from the Big Picture Classes.

Shimelle's Brief ~ For this challenge you have to scrapbook a photo from before 2011. No current pictures allowed. If you can, embrace the idea and scrap something a bit retro or something from your childhood, but I totally understand not everyone has pictures like that at the ready. So anything that is not 2011 will be acceptable!

Big Picture Classes ~ Create a layout or project using the word "share", and share your creation.

So here it is.....I have used Basic Grey Cupcake papers, and embellishments. It is a layout with photographs from 2000 with my eldest son sharing his imaginary food with his cousin.

Paper is Make a Wish Dandelion by Pebbles Inc which has been fringed with scissors (security shredding ones from a stationers). I added the circles just under this and also on the journalling block. Title is thickers and little alpha is my little shoebox.

Dug out some photos from 2002 that were sitting patiently in the queue to be scrapped. It seemed to fit in with another of the challenges from Shimelle's Cybercrop...
Now the challenge: create a layout that starts from this design. You can use any papers or colours you like, but before you add any pictures, start with that large box of paper in the background, a wide vertical strip plus a narrow stripe and a horizontal block. Then complete a layout! You can use the page above as inspiration, but it’s not required. See where this starting point sends you!

Another layout thanks to Shimelle's cybercrop.

Here’s your challenge: Create a project (layout, card, etc) that is embellished with paper rather than embellishments. Take a piece of paper (or two) and chop it up until you have enough to dress up your page!

I mainly used one sheet of the patterned paper in this set, handy as it is double sided. I cut the blossoms and leaf out of one side with a small strip at the bottom of the photo and a block of the left of the photo. The strip at the bottome is a part of a second piece of paper in the pack. Other than that the only thing not paper/card is the title......which I have used thickers for......did not have the letters I wanted so chopped a q and used the numbers. I have put a little journalling at the top of the line of paper and photo.

A sketch on Shimelle's blog sparked this layout. I happened upon it this morning as I was looking in to see when here weekend long crop started today. I was greeted with her weekly sketch, and to begin with nothing took me. Then Shimelle mentioned that the small photos on top of the main one could also be a panorama shot. This got me thinking as I have been taking a couple of these with my new camera. The layout was then concieved that that point when I found a panorama of the campsite and beach we had been to at Easter this year.I have written on the panorama with arrows for 'ice cream', 'our tent', 'beach' and 'sea' to give the sense of location of where we were staying ....

This month's Scrapology layout. I was further inspired buy Anita's page that she made from the sketch - i.e. the paper first sparked me off and then the ribbon/lace she used.

The most time consuming part was threading the organza ribbon through the lace, but I really like the result. I have had this paper for a while with the intention of scrapping a photo of my brother and I from when we were little, and Anita's page set me in motion for this page. The orignal photo was in colour, but I scanned and changed it to sepia with help from Picasa (free download from Google).

Paper is Prima I believe. The bling swirl and blossoms are also Prima. The butterfly is from Primark. Bling in the centre of the blossoms is Papermania. Title - Thickers. Ribbon/lace from stash.

Thought I should drop into my blog today, and dust down the cobwebs. Back now from a camping holiday in Wales, and I am sorting photographs from it - will add some to my daily photo journal when I get a moment (laughing here).

Meanwhile before I went away I was commissioned to make a neutral nappy cake!! I had fun finding a suitable toy for the top, but my lovely husband came up trumps with this cute zebra.

Hope you like it, the recipient did.....and so did someone else and commissioned me to make one for them......making me a very happy and proud lady.

Scrapology again, this time the layout challenge for the month.

I printed this picture onto canvas for added texture. Part of the challenge was to use masks. I have used a dragonfly one from creative expressions and shimmer mist in green. Patterned paper is Cosmo Cricket Storytime, Making Memories Stickers for title, Woodware Punch Butterflies with stickles on the bodies, date stamp.

A belated entry for the June Card Challenge on Scrapology.....they were made on time, just not uploaded in time...!

The image is a Faye Whittaker one (see here), which I borrowed from Liz (thank you). I have watercoloured the image, the red is using distress inks to watercolour - found this made the red very vibrant. The stamped greeting is by Little Claire, and I have used nestabilities to cut the stamp out and it's mat. Patterned paper is Papermania I believe.

When I get five minutes (roflol) I have lots more to upload, but school holidays beckon and time is not my own!

Party Bags

My little boy turned 6 yesterday, I cannot believe how fast time is flying here. For his birthday he chose to go to Pizza Hut and invited 4 friends. As it was a small party I made the party bags!
The Bags were made in a similar fashion to those here.
The stamped image is by Little Musings which has been coloured in with watercolours and distress inks. For the background I masked the pirate and stippled on more distress inks. The greeting stamp is also in the set by Little Musings and the name was stamped with some little alphas I had in my stash.

I have been soooo slow with blogging of late, I really do not know where my time (or energy for that matter) go!! This double page is from Shimelle's May 4x6 Challenge class. It documents a really special day for the boys, and I am sure there will be more pages with these pics coming one day for the boys' albums.
Thanks to my cropping friends for their help with the title.....I needed to juggle the letters I had to fit the title I wanted to get out iyswim......not enough letters in a pack kind of thing :)

The Calendar Girls

Another review today, I promise I have some layouts to upload, but time is my enemy at the moment.

Last night DH and I went to the theatre, something we have not done for years. I was lucky to win some tickets to see The Calendar Girls. We arrived in plenty of time and were directed to our seats, nice ones seeing as they were a prize (I thought we might have a poor view, but no :O) ). A small but well formed cast came on stage and the show began.

Throughout the performance I thought they portrayed the story of their highs and lows with humility and hilarity. The nudity (not nakedness) that was necessary was carried out with great taste, and was a laugh a minute.

It is incredible that this small WI (in the original sense) have now raised more than £3 million for the charity!.

I would recommend this as a great show to go and see :O)

Yes we all love something for free, don't we? Well I have found this fabulous site. Do check it out.

There is a regularly updated list there of companies offering free photo printing. Their mantra is to check into one, grab the freebies and then move onto the next company for their freebies. Simples!! Obviously I have not checked the quality of prints from each site so cannot personally recommend any, though I have shopped at Photobox and instore at Asda for my prints and have been happy with their service. Postage of these photographs is extra.

Another service this site offers is a comparison of photo gifts. They have compared a limited number of sites which offer photo gifts and will show you which is cheapest.

eeeek it is manic here at the moment!! It is Carnival Day tomorrow in Hailsham and the team are busy with last minute preparations.

Meanwhile, before I forget here is my Scrapology layout for this month. A bit of artistic license with the sketch interpretation me thinks, but love my finished layout, and that is the main thing....isn't it? The other thing I was meant to put in (I think was machine stitching), well I chickened out on that one and put some fake pen stitches in..... :o)

Ok, so I suspect I am not alone in the preference of being behind the camera that in front? Well on our recent camping trip, and on a visit to the beach my darling husband took the camera and started snapping. These were some on the ones he took. Not overly happy with me, but I thought I must scrap them as I need to be in the albums somewhere. So here it is......me on the beach with my fetching (and very necessary) sun hat enjoying my book.

and this is the scrapbook page. The patterned paper I have used as the base is a lovely one from Hannah. The title is little foam stickers, a journalling card (a sheet from Hannah again) and a wooden flower button I have coloured with a sakura gelly pen. The blossom I have had in my stash a while 'waiting for that layout', if you see what I mean.

Two cards, similar in design. The cards are Penny Black Transparent stamp which have been watercoloured. I have stamped so the parcels are over the edge a little. The parcels have then been stamped and coloured again and cut out, then decoupaged onto the image, The mats are cut with nesties. The sentiments are Penny Black and Papermania.

Here it is. This is my April page of my blips of the day.

The mask I have used is a dragonfly one, in purple shimmer mists. The letter stickers are matted onto a punched piece of card and raised on foam pads.

A call from my husband's work colleague came, with the hope that I coudl help. Of course I said, and took a deep breath had a think and started a sketch for the card.

My brief was it is a twin card, boy and girl, needs to be A4 and with pages inside to write in.

This is what I came up with, both my husband work colleague and also the recipient were very pleased with it.

As before the stamp is a Penny Black transparent, which has been watercoloured. This along with the mat have been cut out with a nestie. I then embellished and connected the sides with ribbon and also the sentiment. Embellished with items from my stash box. The ribbon at the top is dual purpose, one to look nice and the other to secure and hold together the pages inside. I also decorated the envelope to take the 'stationary' look away a little.

The image is a Penny Black clear stamp that has been watercoloured. It has then been diecut with a scalloped nestie. The mat again is a lacy square nestie. A simple stamped greeting and a bow completed the card.

My Scrapology layout for this month's challenge.

To make my layout I have turned the sketch around so I could use a landscape photograph. The papers and a lot of the embellies are from a kit I have in my cupboard from papermania. The title is thickers and are also glittery. The journal card is from a sheet that I got from Hannah's shop.

A Scrapbook Page for a Change

Today I share a quick simple scrapbook page with you. The base card stock has been spritzed with shimmer mists over a Tim Holtz mask, both top and bottom. To add a little movement to the page I placed the photograph at a jaunty angle and highlighted this with a folded ribbon and then a stamped swirl. I have not given it a bold title, as I felt it was enough with the embellishments I had placed, and I wanted the photo as the main eye catcher (if you see what I mean). The ribbon has family written through it and the little pebble has brother on it, and I felt that this was enough. I journalled about the photo on the left of the picture.

For my Mum and Mother in Law these are the cards I have made for them. They are inspired by a card taught as a make and take by Linda at the 2010 Cardinal Retreat.

My version of the card. Large butterfly is cut twice (bottom layer in mirri card, top in plain cs which is embossed) with the Cuttlebug cut and emboss butterfly. PP - papermania. Small butterflies are a punch from mirri card. Sentiment is stamped and then layered onto a nestie cut square which has been edged in stickles.

Over at Scrapology there is another challenge this month....see here. This month we were to scraplift a layout by Gabrielle Pollacco.

This is my take on the sketch. I have created the dimension/texture with the large flower/paper embellies/fabric blossoms/brads/buttons/lace.....well you can see what I have done :O). The paper embellies are glazed and glittered already and the base cs and also the circle of cs have a metallic shine.

This layout is inspired by the latest sketch from A Trip Down Memory Lane. I decided to use the school photograph of my youngest son, and when I was emptying the package there was also a proof photograph without their writing over the top, so I added it to the corner of the large photograph to add a little more to the layout. The journalling has been written on the stamped area, and cut out. This is loose with the other embellishment as a sub title in a small clip. The clip can still be used so the journalling can be extracted for easier reading. The little red hand is a button, that I have cut the shank off so it sits flatter on the page :)

Some of you may have noticed that at the top right of my blog (below the title :O) ), I have a widget of Blip Photos. I have challenged myself to try to take a photo a day and post it on the Blip site, and then at the end of the month I make a layout with the photos. So far so good....here is January's page.

Cardstock spritzed with brown and orange shimmer mists. Title is 2 layers of card cut on the craft robo, to add a little dimension. The butterflies are from Primark....originally meant to be earrings :). I have used a fine black pen to write a little journalling around each photo and also to write the date on the photo, the observant of you may have noticed there are only 30 photos as I forgot to take a photo on one day :O).

So he helped me rustle up this card ~ I have entered it into the Valentine's Competition on UK Stampers.

This is my take on the Scrapology Challenge for February. I have stayed with the simple look page as I wanted to concentrate the viewer on the photos. The strips are either stickers or scraps from my kit of the range of papers.

Papers/Border Stickers are Basic Grey Archaic. Punches - Martha Stewart and Fiskars. Stamp - Autumn Leaves. Tea Dye Distress ink to colour journalling block. Thickers and Sharpie pen for title.

Another double page, this time from our holiday in Scotland going on the Falkirk Wheel. I had a lot of photographs from watching the 'wheel' as it took the boat from the bottom to the top, so using picasa I made a collage of photos and cut them up to fit the page. The right handside was an after thought to add the ride photo we bought of the family to make it a double page.

This is a layout of a family outing to Alfriston. My eldest son was not happy about going out for a walk and was sat on the bench by the car sulking. I had to snap this photo :O). He did cheer up though later on.
